چکیده

The stressing effect of stocking density and rearing time was assessed on shrimp Penaeus vannamei reared intensively in floating cages. Juvenile were stocked 9 m2 cages at 200, 250, 300 ind m-2 for a 25-day grow-out period. Total soluble protein concentration, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities used as stress indicators muscle, hepatopancreas, hemocytes. Two-way ANOVA showed that content hepatopancreas significantly decreased rate increased (from 3.81 to 2.26 mg mL-1). Density interacted determine SOD activity muscle hemocytes where the maximum occurred densest by end study (10.21 122.41 U mg-1); CAT lower when highest (4.1 mg-1) used. Final weight (5.28-5.49 g), survival (90.2-91.9%), feed conversion ratio (0.75-0.78), specific (0.058-0.063), absolute (1.17-1.30 g week-1) growth rates not affected density, although yields varied (0.99-1.49 kg m-2). To conclude, despite causing shrimp, its antioxidant enzymatic prevented such development from negatively affecting growth, survival, ratio, production.

Phenoloxidase activity of hemocyanin in whiteleg shrimp Penaeus vannamei: conversion, characterization of catalytic properties, and role in postmortem melanosis.

Latent phenoloxidase activity of hemocyanin (Hc) in whiteleg shrimp Penaeus vannamei was assayed to determine its potential involvement in postmortem melanosis. Conversion of pure 12-mer, but not 6-mer, hemocyanin to phenoloxidase by endogenous (serine proteinases) and exogenous (SDS) effectors demonstrated the need of complex aggregation for displaying enzyme activity. Because Hc was converted...

The microsporidian Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei is not the cause of white feces syndrome in whiteleg shrimp Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei

BACKGROUND The microsporidian Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei was first described from Thailand in 2009 in farmed, indigenous giant tiger shrimp Penaeus (Penaeus) monodon. The natural reservoir for the parasite is still unknown. More recently, a microsporidian closely resembling it in morphology and tissue preference was found in Thai-farmed, exotic, whiteleg shrimp Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei e...

Taura syndrome virus from Penaeus vannamei shrimp cultured in Korea.

Mass mortality occurred among Penaeus vannamei shrimp cultured in Korea in 2004. In an earlier study, we reported white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) as a causative agent of mass mortality of P. monodon shrimp in Korea (Moon et al. 2003; Dis Aquat Org 53:11-13). However, in the present study, we detected Taura syndrome virus (TSV) from the moribund 2004 P. vannamei shrimp by reverse transcription ...

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of power ultrasound on the allergenicity and texture properties of shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). For this purpose, raw and boiled shrimps were treated with power ultrasound (30...
